Ergonomics
- This Mossberg has a nice right-handed palm swell
- Forend has some nice grooves and inlays for a good grip
- Top tang safety with barrel selectors
- Receiver comes with full ejectors
- This gun doesn't have high-end engraving on it. However, the steel receiver is decorated with some nice lines
- Vented rib and vented barrel
- Fiber bead
- The bottom of the receiver has a nice Mossberg gold reserve emblem on it
- Standard-grade wood as you'd imagine at this price point
- We were really able to get full grip contact with our finger on the trigger - nice!
- This gun is a bit rear-heavy due to all the hardware on the adjustable stock
-
Recoil and Reliability
- The adjustability of the Gold Reserve Sport played a factor in making its recoil manageable. Every time, it was mostly back into the shoulder with no problems
- Once we adjusted the pitch of this stock, the felt recoil went down
- However, the recoil of target loads through this gun was a bit more than we expected
- We can't speak to the reliability of an over-under in depth! It would take some dedicated time on the range to determine if this shotgun will hold up over time. If you have experience with the Gold Reserve Sport, let us know how it's held up on the TFL COMMUNITY!

Breakdown/Quality of Build
- Breaks apart like most over-under shotguns.
- This gun seems to be built well and has good tolerances.
- If you have any experience with the longevity of this gun, let us know!

Speed Shooting
- Although you won't be trying to shoot down 2 birds as fast as possible, we like to see how fast we can get on target with every gun we review. This sheds light on the overall functionality of the shotgun, testing how well it instinctively mounts, how reactive the trigger is, and how the gun feels overall.
- As we ran this Mossberg though our speed test, we were able to get on clays and hit them with no problem. The only issue we had was speed. Typically we like to get out splits (time between shots) down to at least .18 or .19 - that would be fast. With this gun, we struggled to get anything less than a .25!
- Through many attempts, our fastest time shooting 2 hand thrown clays was a .93! We wish we could have run it a bit faster but we didn't have any serious hiccups at least
In conclusion, this Mossberg Gold Reserve Super Sport is a good gun for the money. There are other sporting guns that fall into this price point worth considering but we're overall pretty happy with this shotgun. The trigger was probably the low light. Getting consistently fast back-to-back shots was difficult with how heavy it was. We really salute Mossberg for developing a sporting gun that can be easily adjustable. With that said, we'll need to adjust the dimensions more in hopes of decreasing the recoil because as is, it was a bit much. For the price, this adjustability alone is worth the consideration!
