QUICK SPECS
- 12 gauge
- Break action
- This BT-99 comes with one flush-mounted full choke and one improved mod Invector Plus Midas choke - But of course, we'd swap that out with a Carlson's Choke Tube
- Only 2 3/4" chamber for trap loads
- Single 32" Barrell (Ported on this variation)
- Shotgun Weight is 8lbs 6oz
- The length of pull is 14 3/8" and is not adjustable. This is adjustable on a couple of other variations of the BT99
- Drop at comb is 1 1/4" (Comb is adjustable)
- Drop at heel is 2" (At monte carlo)
- The comb is also adjustable up, down, and from left to right to get your eye centered on the shotgun
TRIGGER
- This Trigger has a decently light and crisp pull
- The BT-99 was one of many trap guns we covered in one day at the range, and this shotgun had the best trigger. Definitely impressed!
- 5lbs 2.4oz (Average pull weight)
ERGONOMICS
- What makes this BT-99 Plus a bit more expensive is the adjustability, the receiver engraving, and the ported barrel
- This gun feels great. The forearm fits especially well. There's an adequate inlay to point a finger in line with the barrel if you shoot like that. The bottom of the forend widens out quite a bit but we don't mind this
- This BT99 has a right-handed palm swell with really good grip - 18 lines per inch
- The forend and grip is nice - it has enough surface area for the shooter to be able to point your index finger
- Nothing fancy as far as the wood - It's a grade 3/4 gloss finish. Really classy looking
- Ivory mid-bead and ivory front bead (GOOD JOB BROWNING!) We can't figure out why the $6,000 MAX 5 BT99 has a fiberoptic...
- There is no safety! Just the top lever
- High post rib and vented barrel
- This BT99 has auto ejectors - not all BT99's have this
- The balance point is right on the hinge point - typically a trap gun would be a bit forward-leaning for a smoother swing, but this BT99 is almost perfectly balanced in the middle
RECOIL/RELIABILITY
- This BT99 handles recoil with no issue at all.
- Everything worked great for us - If you have experience with this gun, we're relying on you to share how reliable it's been! Chime in on the TFL COMMUNITY!
BREAKDOWN/QUALITY OF BUILD
- It's a Browning - Every Browning that we've reviewed has been built tough with good material. No reason this gun shouldn't last a lifetime
- This gun comes apart and goes back together very nicely
TRAP SHOOTING WITH THE BT-99
This is typically where we'd speed shoot the gun and try to accomplish a fast time. But this is a dedicated trap gun, and thanks to Ranges at Oakfield, we were at a trap range, so we decided to shoot a full round to get some real hands-on experience using the gun as it was intended.
- This gun mounted and shot really smoothly. Steve shot 24 out of 25!
- The point-ability was a big highlight. Getting used to this gun was very natural
- Steve said that he'd probably put a falcon strike on this gun to adjust the LOP as it's not adjustable out of the box
Overall, this Browning BT99 is dynamite. This gun rose to the occasion with no hesitation. Very natural mounting, super smooth operation, and a high-quality build. What more could you ask for?
