Ergonomics
The Elos D2 feels great in the hands. The oil-finished stock has tasteful checkering, and the slight right-hand palm swell provides a natural grip. The pistol grip is slightly short, which is common for field guns, and mounts up quickly and cleanly. The Schnabel forend gives a classic upland feel, and the brushed nickel receiver, detailed with a pheasant on one side and a grouse on the other, adds some refined character.
The brushed nickel has alternating patterns that enhance the visual appeal. From a practical standpoint, the top tang safety is textured and easy to operate—especially important in the field. The gun uses ejectors (not extractors), which is a big plus when you’re shooting fast and reloading on the fly. The barrel selector is integrated into the safety and functions smoothly.
Both in our review and our field testing, the Elos D2 proved to be a great gun ergonimically.
Recoil and Reliability
Despite being lightweight, the Elos D2 handles recoil better than expected. During extended shooting sessions and field use, the gun proved comfortable and controlled. While there was a slight pop to the cheek due to fit, it wasn’t harsh or distracting.
We ran standard upland game loads (7/8 oz, 1210 FPS, #7.5 shot), and the gun ran flawlessly. Importantly, recoil wasn’t a limiting factor for quick follow-up shots—a huge plus when birds are flushing in rapid succession.
Want even less recoil? We love the FalconStrike recoil reduction systems.
Breakdown/Quality of Build
Fabarm’s commitment to quality shines through in the Elos D2. A key update in newer models is a steel insert at the breach of the alloy receiver, increasing durability and ensuring the gun’s longevity. The insert is also replaceable, giving owners peace of mind that this shotgun can be passed down for generations.
The fit and finish are excellent. The forend fits snugly, the action is silky smooth with just the right amount of tension, and the lock-up is rock solid. Wood quality varies between individual guns, but the examples we saw had attractive, well-figured stocks. At this price point, the attention to detail and craftsmanship are impressive.
Shooting Experience
From the first shots in the field to clays on the range, the Elos D2 delivered a stellar experience. The action is buttery smooth, the balance is spot on, and the trigger is crisp—measuring around 4 lbs 8 oz with virtually no pre-travel. The gun’s light weight makes it ideal for long days in the field, especially where walking outweighs shooting.
The D2 is slightly whippy compared to heavier guns like the Elos Elite, but that’s to be expected—and even appreciated—in a fast-action hunting environment. When birds flushed, the gun mounted quickly, swung naturally, and helped us connect with ease.
Final Thoughts
The Fabarm Elos D2 is a beautifully crafted upland shotgun with standout ergonomics, impressive build quality, and refined shooting characteristics. It manages recoil well for a lightweight over-under and brings enough durability—thanks to its upgraded receiver—to go the distance. Whether you’re chasing wild birds or clays, this shotgun deserves a serious look from any upland enthusiast.
